About This Opportunity
Linus Media Group seeks a skilled Camera Operator to join our award-winning production team in Surrey, BC. This role offers the unique chance to work on content viewed by millions of technology enthusiasts worldwide across our flagship channels, including Linus Tech Tips, ShortCircuit, and TechLinked.
As part of production crew, you’ll work with state-of-the-art filming equipment while collaborating with creative professionals who share your passion for visual storytelling. This position reports directly to our Film Production Supervisor and plays a crucial role in maintaining our reputation for high-quality tech content.
What You’ll Do
Your main job every day will be to record great video content in a variety of production formats:
- Use professional camera systems on your own to make footage that is good enough for broadcast
- Set up and run full production setups, such as lighting arrays, audio gear, and systems for syncing timecodes.
- Choose the right equipment and set up filming locations to get the best possible sound and picture quality.
- Work with writers, directors of photography, and teams from different departments to make sure that visuals are the same across all channels.
- Use standard file management systems and naming conventions to organize and store footage.
- Use tripods, sliders, stabilizers, and teleprompter systems to set up camera rigs.
- Help with planning before production, such as finding props and designing the set
- Fix technical problems that come up during live and recorded sessions
- Keep equipment in good shape by cleaning it often and doing preventive maintenance.
- Handle multiple projects at once while meeting tight deadlines for production
What We’re Looking For
The best candidate has both technical skills and a creative mind:
Required Qualifications:
- Showed that you know how to use a professional camera, including how to control frame rates, resolution, exposure, and composition.
- Proven ability to fix problems with production equipment, such as camera systems, audio gear, lighting setups, and synchronization technology
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work with people from different departments and understand creative briefs
- History of meeting tight deadlines while working alone and as part of a team
- Comfortable directing actors on camera to get the right performances and framing
- Familiarity with taking care of and maintaining equipment on a regular basis
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of different professional camera platforms and lens systems
- A deeper understanding of the principles of lighting design and how to record audio
- Knowing how to use camera support gear, like motion control systems and stabilization tools
- A history of fixing technical problems in fast-paced production environments
- Being able to change with the times in terms of creative needs and production workflows
- Excellent people skills that make it easy for people from different departments to work together.
- A detail-oriented mindset and a proactive approach to team projects
