About the Opportunity

Horizon Technologies is looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to work with a healthcare client in Canada. This is an exciting chance to run important cloud infrastructure for the healthcare industry, where security, reliability, and compliance are very important.

You will be in charge of designing and maintaining AWS Cloud infrastructure, setting up automation, making sure that security rules are followed, and improving systems for speed and reliability. This job has a lot of technical challenges and opportunities for professional growth if you do well in a fast-paced, creative environment and are an expert in cloud infrastructure and automation.


What You’ll Do

AWS Cloud Infrastructure Management

  • Design, set up, and run strong AWS Cloud infrastructure that is always available and resilient.
  • Use and keep up with advanced load-balancing techniques to improve performance and dependability.
  • Keep an eye on and improve cloud resources so that they are cost-effective without hurting performance.
  • Make sure your infrastructure can grow with your business needs.
  • Create and put into action plans for disaster recovery and business continuity

Security & Compliance

  • Make sure that cloud security measures are in place and that they follow healthcare industry standards (HIPAA, HITECH).
  • Use the best security practices on all cloud services and infrastructure.
  • To keep access to the least amount of privilege, manage IAM roles, policies, and access controls.
  • Take care of business security issues like email security and endpoint detection and response (EDR).
  • Check for security holes and do security audits
  • Help with basic SOC (Security Operations Center) tasks
  • Make plans for backups and disaster recovery and put them into action.

Infrastructure Automation & IaC

  • Use Terraform or AWS CloudFormation to automate the provisioning and management of cloud infrastructure.
  • Make templates and modules for infrastructure that can be used again
  • Follow the best practices for Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Keep track of different versions of infrastructure configurations
  • Make automation processes better all the time to make them more efficient.

CI/CD & Development Support

  • Work with development teams to set up and improve CI/CD pipelines
  • Make the processes for delivering software better so that deployments happen faster and are more reliable.
  • Find ways to make the processes for development and release more automatic and better.
  • Put product updates, fixes, and new features into production environments
  • Help set up local development environments to make the development process easier.
  • Give Level 2 technical support for problems with production

Integrations & Communication Systems

  • Put communication tools like Twilio and SendGrid into your systems.
  • Make sure that healthcare notifications and alerts can be sent and received reliably.
  • Handle API connections with services from other companies
  • Set up and keep email delivery systems running
  • Check the health and deliverability of the communication system

Monitoring, Logging & Incident Management

  • Make and keep up-to-date detailed monitoring dashboards, especially CloudWatch dashboards.
  • Set up systems that will alert you to problems before they happen.
  • Make and put into action detailed plans and reports for responding to incidents.
  • Find and fix production problems quickly and effectively
  • Find the root cause and take steps to stop it from happening again.
  • Use tools like Sentry to keep an eye on and track errors.

Database & Server Management

  • Use SQL and NoSQL databases to store data.
  • Set up and keep up Linux web servers (Apache, Nginx)
  • Improve the performance of the database and set up backup plans
  • Make sure that access controls and security are in place for the database.

Required Qualifications

Essential Experience

  • At least two years of experience managing AWS Cloud infrastructure and balancing loads
  • More than two years of working a lot with Linux operating systems
  • Terraform or CloudFormation for AWS Infrastructure automation for more than two years
  • A proven track record of running complicated cloud environments in production
  • Experience working in healthcare or another industry that is regulated (preferred)

AWS Expertise

Strong proficiency in AWS services including:

  • Compute: EC2, Lambda, AWS SAM (Serverless Application Model)
  • Networking: VPC, Load Balancers (ALB/NLB), Route53, CloudFront
  • Security: IAM, Security Groups, KMS, Secrets Manager
  • Monitoring: CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config
  • Storage: S3, EBS, EFS
  • Database: RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
  • A good understanding of automation and orchestration of infrastructure
  • Experience with tools for managing configurations
  • Ability to write scripts for automation (Python, Bash, or something similar)
  • Knowledge of orchestration (ECS/EKS) and containerization (Docker)

CI/CD & Development Tools

  • Experience with CI/CD tools and methods that have been proven
  • A lot of experience with Git and Bitbucket Pipelines
  • Knowing how to use JIRA for managing projects and keeping track of problems
  • Knowledge of Sentry or other tools for tracking errors
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and agile methods

System Administration

  • Very good at using Linux operating systems like Ubuntu, CentOS, and Amazon Linux
  • Nginx and Apache are two Linux web servers that you should know about.
  • Knowledge of best practices for system hardening and security
  • Experience with automating systems and writing shell scripts
  • Monitoring servers and improving their performance

Security & Compliance

  • A basic understanding of the rules of information security
  • Understanding of EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) systems
  • Knowing the best ways to keep email safe
  • Knowing how SOC works and how to respond to security incidents
  • Knowledge of compliance rules (HIPAA is best for healthcare)

Database Knowledge

  • Understanding of SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, RDS)
  • Knowledge of NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB)
  • Database backup and recovery strategies
  • Basic query optimization and performance tuning

Communication & Integration

  • Proficiency with communication technologies such as Twilio and SendGrid
  • Experience integrating third-party APIs and services
  • Understanding of webhook implementations and event-driven architectures
