About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer at Meijer, you will be in charge of leading technical work on our Order Management System (OMS). In this job, you will be able to shape and oversee architecture, integration, and operational resilience across a wide range of services that help with order fulfillment and connecting to the marketplace. You will work with people from many teams to make sure that solutions are scalable, reliable, and efficient, and that they meet business goals. This job allows for a flexible work schedule from home, with occasional trips to the office. You must live in or be willing to move to Meijer’s six-state area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of OMS architecture spanning Yantra, digital services, SAP Commerce, and third-party marketplace integrations.
- Set the limits for services, APIs, event schemas, and dependencies for workflows that handle orders and fulfill them.
- Use formal documentation, design reviews, and working together with other teams to make decisions about architecture.
- Advocate for multi-cloud active/active deployment strategies to ensure high availability.
- Within a SAFe Agile framework, work with product owners and IT partners to come up with and test acceptance criteria.
- Use Kafka, service bus queues, and reactive handlers to build event-driven, asynchronous workflows that focus on reliability and recovering from errors.
- Lead cloud modernization initiatives across Azure and Google Cloud platforms, focusing on failover, scaling, and observability.
- Manage CI/CD pipeline enhancements, build governance, and deployment strategies promoting zero downtime and high service reliability.
- As the integration lead for OMS connections with enterprise platforms like Hybris, Mirakl, Instacart, and others, make sure that API standards are followed and that partners can easily join.
- Lead the work on building the data platform, which includes CosmosDB, Azure SQL, ETL pipelines, and catalog management.
- Work with QA teams to improve automation by creating complete test plans that cover performance, integration, and end-to-end order flows.
- Mentor engineers and help technical and business stakeholders work together to move major OMS projects forward.
- If needed, take part in production support and Agile team ceremonies.
Required Skills
- You need to be very good at Java/Spring Boot and know how to use.NET for UI integrations for this job.
- The candidate should possess strong expertise in REST API design and contract management.
- Experience managing engineering work in complicated, distributed microservice settings.
- A lot of experience with Kafka, event-driven design, asynchronous processing, and patterns for resiliency.
- You should have worked with Azure services like AKS, ARO, APIM, CosmosDB, and Data Factory, as well as Google Cloud services like GKE, Pub/Sub, and Cloud SQL.
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Helm, Docker, and YAML templates.
- Knowledge of how to design database schemas, use Liquibase for migrations, and improve ETL pipelines.
- Knowledge of how to manage traffic across multiple clouds, how to handle failovers, and the problems that come up with keeping a distributed system consistent.
- Familiarity with Hybris/SAP Commerce and Mirakl marketplace integration patterns.
- Experience with LaunchDarkly for managing feature flags and OpenTelemetry and Dynatrace for monitoring.
- Able to come up with complete test plans and lead automation projects.
- The candidate must be able to communicate well and show that they can lead in a group setting.
Qualifications
You need either a bachelor’s degree or 12 years of related work experience, or a combination of the two that is equal to or better than either. Candidates should have a proven track record as a lead engineer in large-scale distributed systems and multi-service architectures. It helps to have worked in Agile teams before and to know about retail order orchestration domains.
